#2 April's hand made gift box
#3 Left...Pinky Center...Cathy Right...Karen
#4...Mary's Answered Prayer Box (used old wooden thread spools for the legs & antler button)
#5...Jan's Vintage Family Portrait Box (used old family portraits for top, inside, and front)
#6...April's Box (used bronze wood beads for legs, elegant papers, and ribbons)
#7...Pinky's Stash Box (used letter beads, wooden bead legs, hand made papers)
#8...Karen's Raven Box (used a card sister, Lyla, made for the top, unique papers, and cut out ravens for decoration)

Today was one of those days. One thing led to another and we were laughing big time and so much that tears appear...the best medicine a doctor can recommend.

Thank you, Jan, for such a nice day. The muffins were wonderful, the coffee yummy, and the friendship amazing...

We all brought our cigar box challenges to share. Pinky gave us all small cigar boxes to alter. It was so much fun to see what each one did with theirs. I know that three of them had crows/ravens on them. I thought that was interesting... Take a look at the pictures to see what each of us did with our individual boxes...very fun.

We had special guests today. Cathy Otto was with us and so was Gwen Jarvela. It was just fun to visit with them both and do some catching up. Cathy was working on a hat for herself and Gwen brought a sketch pad and sketched most of the time she was with us.

Jan gave us each some wooden beads to use as legs on this cigar project or ,maybe, a future one. Thanks, Jan!

Jan was working on a special project, making little booklets...April was making hand made boxes out of scrapbooking papers...Pinky was working on a crocheted rug...Karen was working on cards, and Mary was working on Valentines. We all were on a roll...

See you next week at Pinky's on the Long Beach Peninsula!

Tuesday at April's...

Kathy Otto joined us today (Tuesday) for the day. It is always good to see her and see what she has been up to. She worked on crocheted hats today and showed us a beautiful painting she did of dancing shoes. It looked like a photo. It was so clear. I can't post a pic here as she had it on her camera for us to see.

Amber, April's daughter, was with us today and was also working on a calender for Alaska. We always enjoy it when she can join us.

The following are pics of all of us doing various projects. Pinky has started her 2nd rag run in greens and tans, Karen was working on altered books and cards, Jan was tearing strips for her next rug, April was working on a journal for her Alaska trip, & Mary was working on strips for another rug.

April shared lots of goodies with us that she found at a garage sale. She found beautiful cards at the Sister's quilt show and shared those with us also. Kathy brought several things to share with us also. That is one really neat thing about this group. If we find something coooool, we share it with each other.

Welcome Lyla and Lubie!!!!

We all welcomed Lyla (Karen's sister) to our group officially on Tuesday. Our time together was held at Karen's home in Birkenfeld. Lyla and her little dog, Lubie, are having a visit with Karen and Don this week.

She brought Mary a birthday present and presented it in an altered can...such a great idea! I think we are going to have to try that one of these days...excellent presentation of a gift idea. Inside the can was one of her fabulous altered books with several pages devoted to my all time fav cowboy...Roy. Lyla made a birthday card...also with Roy and two ATCs. What a wonderful gift. Thank you, Lyla!

This was such a busy day...the time just flew. Lyla brought us a large box filled with scrapbooking supplies that she is no longer using...WOW! She said she didn't want to take any of it home with her and we obliged her. :>)) This was such a great day...Thank you, Lyla for all the goodies.

To top that off, Karen and Lyla made us the most wonderful lunch with salad, chips, and open face tuna sandwiches...YUM!

Did I ever tell you Tuesday is the day I look forward to all week...:>))

Lyla's Books Came!!!! Yea!

I am just showing you a few of the pages from Lyla's altered books. She can put the neatest combination of goodies on a page to make it just shine. All of us were so thrilled with the books that we ordered. They are wonderful!

Pic #1 Page from Lyla's book with raven.

Pic #2 Another page from a different book. I'm just trying to give you an idea of what she does...amazing!

Pic #3 This is the book Mary chose. It has a Fox theme...how coooool is that???

Pic #4 Another couple of pages from Mary's book.

Pic #5 Jan's heart rag rug that I absently left off of the previous post. This one looks hard to me, but she makes it look easy...

Finishing Touch For Joan's Card....

I took Jan's suggestion and tied the card instead of leaving the ring on it. It turns much easier. Since Joan loves books, I put strings, ribbons, threads, etc. and glued little miniature books to them that I had already. I really didn't know what to do with them until this came up...perfect.

I added the pics of both sides of the pages we did for Joan's card. Sorry about the sideways one! We all enjoyed doing an extra page of our challenge for Joan.

Mary's Birthday celebration!

Mary has a birthday this week. We gave her a celebration today at our gathering at April's house. April prepared us all a delicious lunch of chicken salad, along with fabulous strawberry shortcake. Mary got a candle on her dessert. I'm not sure what she is doing here, pulling the honor inward?

Here is our blushing Mary, she can't wipe that joyful smile off her face. And why should she? She was the object of our full attention as she opened the gifts she had received from the gang. And what a great lot of loot she received! First she opened April's gifts and it seemed that bag of presents was never ending! All wonderful, from the art related magazines and books to the absolutely stunning book that April made for her. It was full of painted, folded, embellished, stamped, printed LOVE! It is a book that I'm sure Mary will treasure forever.

This is one of the gifts she received from me (Jan). I think she liked it. I enjoyed making it for her. Pinky, Karen and Joan also had plenty of wonderful gifts, some hand made, some purchased new and some from garage sales. All seemed to be very much appreciated by Mary. All the gifts showed the respect and love we all have for Mary.

Here is a closer look at the book April made for Mary. It is very special.

Everyone enjoyed the day. We also traded some scrumptious squares (decorated 1 1/2 inch squares), opened the package of ATC's we received from an online group we traded with, and made plans for our challenge of the week. We are going to alter/decorate some small tins to exchange with each other. Watch this space for the results of that trade. I'm sure they will be exciting. It was a very busy and fun day, even though none of us did a lick of art.

Happy Birthday, Mary! We love you!!

Karen's and Her Sister, Lyla's Flag Book...

Mary said: As I said below, Karen brought her extra large trade cards to trade with us this week. She also brought a flag book that her sister, Lyla, made. During this past year we have been able to see several of the cards, post cards, trade cards and now this flag book that Lyla has made. We would love to have her come join us some Tuesday. That would be so fun! Enjoy the pics.

PURPLE TUESDAY... :>))

Mary said: We all had a great day on Tuesday at April's. It is always fun to watch the birds at her house. She gets them all! The whole gang was there...no one missing.

Karen brought her extra large trade cards for us to pick. Every one was so neat and special. It was hard to choose. Double click on the pics for a closer look.

It seems each week one of us brings things to share with the group and Tues. was no exception. Jan brought some great little doily-looking pieces for us each to take. Pinky brought some walnut crystals that turns into a liquid that you can paint over an ATC or card to make them look old. I did try it out and it is fun to work with. April brought us some play money to use on ATCs or cards or ???? Mary brought a cheese cake recipe for a large group she tried at church and loved. This is what makes this group so special...

We all just worked on various projects. Later in the week I got an email from Jan asking if any of us would be interested in doing a little book project, soooooooo of course we will give it a go.

This next week we are to bring back the foam stamps that Jan gave us and some paper made with them to share with each other. I can't wait to see what everyone has done!

Joan Unwrapping Her Presents.

These pictures show Joan opening two frames that were put together by Jan of ATCs that we all made. She has no pictures as of yet, so we thought this would be a fun present. Jan did a great job of filling the frames. The other pictures are of Joan opening her quilt and the matching pillows. She really had fun opening all the goodies. We all, also, made Joan a journal to keep track of life in her new home. Each of us did several pages in the book until it was full. We left pages blank for her to write on. We just had so much fun making these presents and watching her open them. There was lots of laughing going on that day...good medicine.
