5 GIVE A WAYS COMING UP!!!!!

Boy, there was lots of laughing going on at Pinky's Tuesday. Our topic of the day was most embarrassing moments and did we have some! No, I can't share them with you...that's the neat part of this group. What comes to S & B stays at S & B. :>))

We were all pretty much working on different things.

Jan was getting torn sheet strips ready to make another crocheted rag rug. She is starting with multicolored strips, but felt it needed a bit of a break with some red plain fabric mixed in. I think it is going to be a stunning rug.

April was practicing her calligraphy. She says she hasn't done it for awhile, but what she was doing looked fantastic!

Pinky was working on a new iris folding pattern. She was trying some new papers and they turned out beautiful.

Karen was working on a few of her art journal pages. She used her hand made coyote stamp on one of them. Check out the picture.

Mary was working on Easter cards. She used vintage postcards and made new cards to give away. She used both front and back of the vintage cards in the project.

We will meet at Jan's next week for a little tutorial in art journaling. I think this will be a real challenge for this person, especially...ready to give it a go.

GET READY FOR OUR GIVE A WAYS!!!! WE ARE GOING TO HAVE 5 OF THEM!!! JAN WILL START WITH THE FIRST ONE. PLEASE COME AND COMMENT ON OUR BLOG TO ENTER...EVEN BETTER IF YOU FOLLOW US :>))

Today was one of those days. One thing led to another and we were laughing big time and so much that tears appear...the best medicine a doctor can recommend.

Thank you, Jan, for such a nice day. The muffins were wonderful, the coffee yummy, and the friendship amazing...

We all brought our cigar box challenges to share. Pinky gave us all small cigar boxes to alter. It was so much fun to see what each one did with theirs. I know that three of them had crows/ravens on them. I thought that was interesting... Take a look at the pictures to see what each of us did with our individual boxes...very fun.

We had special guests today. Cathy Otto was with us and so was Gwen Jarvela. It was just fun to visit with them both and do some catching up. Cathy was working on a hat for herself and Gwen brought a sketch pad and sketched most of the time she was with us.

Jan gave us each some wooden beads to use as legs on this cigar project or ,maybe, a future one. Thanks, Jan!

Jan was working on a special project, making little booklets...April was making hand made boxes out of scrapbooking papers...Pinky was working on a crocheted rug...Karen was working on cards, and Mary was working on Valentines. We all were on a roll...

See you next week at Pinky's on the Long Beach Peninsula!

More Pics From Tuesday...

Here are a few more pics of the calendar pages. Jan has started a new heart for a special friend and I enclosed it so you can see the detail of how she begins one of her heart pin creations. There is a pic of April working on her examples for her Christmas card class coming up soon. The group of 4 cards are by Karen. She was just whipping them out like crazy today! Pinky and Mary worked on rag rugs. It looks like Pink's is almost done!

It was such a good day with everyone there.

See you next week at Karen's!

We're All Here!

Tuesday was another great day with the five of us physically, and Lyla...our co-partner in crime...long distance. We are so happy Karen is joining us again and feeling better each day.

Jan did the hostessing and served us her wonderful muffins to get us off to a good start. She also showed us two or three different online demonstrations of using different inks and making your own stamps. All of it inspired us to have a workday next Tues., here at my house, working with new paints and stamps, embossing, and heat guns. We are excited!

Pinky brought us all little cigar boxes...here we go again. It is to be a challenge, but we have awhile to work on them...no rules :>)) Make something from the cigar box...that is it! It needs to be done by Nov. 22. The last one like this was sooo fun and all were so different. That is what is fun about putting 6 different personalities together making art...super!

The pictures are top left...Jan showing us her latest project...a fantastic quilt using a method of doing one 12" square at a time, sandwiching them, and finally...putting it all together. It is just beautiful. Double click on it to see the detail.

Top right is Karen working on some cards and writing notes with them.

Next is April's Alaska journal she is working on. It will be a keepsake for her to look back on for many years. I know Amber will enjoy reading through it when she gets home at Christmas.

Mary and Pinky were working on crochet. Pinky worked on her rag rug in greens, beiges, browns and Mary was working on some wash cloths.

All in all...it was another too fast day and it was time to head home. The time always goes too fast for all of us! We did solve some problems of the world while we were together :>))

Meeting At April's Today...

This was our first meeting with April arriving at noon. We kind of took over her house until she got home today. Three of us...Jan, Pinky, and Mary were working on future rag rugs. Pinky is working on a round one. Jan & Mary are working on an oblong ones.

When April arrived, she was getting ready for her Saturday Crafts Day at her church. They are going to do cutting art on rhodie leaves. She was busy making a sample for Saturday's class. I am sorry I didn't take a picture of it. I meant to and just yacked too much.

We missed Karen today. There is always a void when she isn't with us, so hope to see her next week and that she is feeling much better.

Pinky brought us the neatest copper colored ties to go on tags and shared with us all. There is one for you, too, Karen...see the top left pic.

Oh, by the way...the 2nd row left pic is of our little buddy...sock monkey...

Thanks, April for the books you let us go through and choose. That was a treat!

Thanks, too, for letting us see the art work your dad had done in the past.

We have one more week to work on the calendars for each other. We will exchange them next Tues. at April's house. Can't wait to see mine!!!

Have a great week...God bless you.

Tuesday at April's...

Kathy Otto joined us today (Tuesday) for the day. It is always good to see her and see what she has been up to. She worked on crocheted hats today and showed us a beautiful painting she did of dancing shoes. It looked like a photo. It was so clear. I can't post a pic here as she had it on her camera for us to see.

Amber, April's daughter, was with us today and was also working on a calender for Alaska. We always enjoy it when she can join us.

The following are pics of all of us doing various projects. Pinky has started her 2nd rag run in greens and tans, Karen was working on altered books and cards, Jan was tearing strips for her next rug, April was working on a journal for her Alaska trip, & Mary was working on strips for another rug.

April shared lots of goodies with us that she found at a garage sale. She found beautiful cards at the Sister's quilt show and shared those with us also. Kathy brought several things to share with us also. That is one really neat thing about this group. If we find something coooool, we share it with each other.

Pink Tuesday in July

We all gathered at Pinky's on the peninsula for our 5th of July meeting.  It was a gorgeous sunny day, quite welcome as we have not had a lot of those this season.  Above you can see Mary's creative mess which she turns into what you see below.

Mary's creative cards and tags.
All these gals are so good at combining papers, inks, stamps, embellishments and odds and ends, and turning them into beautiful small works of art.

Pinky enjoyed making her first crocheted rug so much that she has decided to make another.  Here she is, tearing an old sheet into strips.  It is a very dusty job!  Also in front of her is a pile of rubber stamps.  She purchased them unmounted from the going out of business sale at Scrolls Works.  Pinky mounts her own stamps and saves a lot of money that way.  Maybe she can explain how she mounts them, in the comments section.

Karen was also busy working in one of her journals.  She has been using images her father drew long ago.  He tended to draw cowboy type figures and was quite talented.  I guess we can see where Karen got her talent for art and her love of cowboy related things.  The drawn images are unique and show what a flair her dad had for these caricatures.

I'm sorry I didn't get a good picture of what April was working on but she too was working with  paper and making cards.  And taking a few notes too, evidently.

Jan finally finished her second crocheted rug after having to tear half of it out the first time around due to its overly wonky nature.  It lays fairly flat now.

After she finished the rug she went on to doodle in her book in some similar colors.

Rufus, Pinky's cat, slept through most of the visit in spite of the presence of Rocky.  Good thing for Rocky.

See you next week at April's!

Progress On April's New Rag Rug...

As you can see, April is working on her new rug that will go around the toilet. She amazes me how she can make it square so easily. April used some sheets and some fabric on hers and the colors blend so nicely. She is using her oval rag rug in her kitchen now. You guessed it! Both rugs have purple and teal in them...her fav colors.

It is her daughter, Amber's, birthday today. Happy Birthday Am! Have a wonderful day.
God's blessings on the exciting year ahead.

Jan has been doing some shifting around in her studio and had some items hanging up that none of us have seen before, so it was fun to look around at what she had. She had a piece of woven felt laid out on her cutting table, so it will be fun to see what that developes into. Jan was working on her multicolored rag rug today and it is turning out so pretty. She said she had some problems with hers wanting to curl too. We all discussed that and just came up with the fact that you have to constantly watch it on every round to make sure it is laying just like you want it to. She has also started a new blue piece that is off to a wonderful start...don't forget to double click on the pics for a close up. Jan was our hostess today and made us all yummy muffins for a treat.

I have to tell you...going into Jan's studio is always fun. She has much of her own art on the walls and many pieces given to her by other artists she has known. She loves color and you can tell it when you see her space.
