Zentangle?

I think these people had the head start on Zentangle.  I just found this to be so beautiful.  It is a bride from India on her wedding day.  They decorate their hands like this with henna.  It is a dye that eventually wears off.  Some people dye their hair with it or do temporary tatoos with it.  I just thought this was so neat and wanted to share it with you.

We weren't able to get together this week as April's schedule was different, Jan's car wasn't ready, Karen was having some problems with her dental work, Pinky went with her husband for a medical appt. in Longview, and I stayed home and worked on some calendar pages for Jan and Karen.  I have Lyla's to do and will be done.

Have fun getting ready for Christmas!

  1. That is pretty cool, those tattooed hands. Funny, I have been zentangling in some drawn hands in my journal lately. Seeing these hands gives me more ideas. Hope you stay well, Mary.

  3. If my brain is functioning right, the meaning of the henna on the hands is that the less the bride does, the longer her tattoos stay. It is a time in her life that she is to be waited on, as with married life, she will be in the role of waiting on others.
I vaguely recall there being a certain status with the amount of time the pattern is fully visible. I had seen a wonderful documentary on it, but that was a while back, and doing well to pull these thoughts.
I love the henna designs~~so exquisitely drawn! (and yes, before *Zentangle* was a well know phrase....)

    XXOO~~

  4. Can you imagine sitting long enough for someone to do something like this on your hands? I can't but it is beautiful and I'm sure the bride thinks sitting for that long is well worth it.
