Fun at April's

This week we got together at April's.  She baked up a pineapple upside down cake to share with us.  Wow, that was delicious!  Thanks April!

April's completed shell angel.  This will make a great ornament for her Christmas tree this year.  Only about 284 days till Christmas!

Here is Mary's shell angel, beautifully framed.  Nice work ladies!  Thanks to Sharon, Mary's friend, for donating the shells and beads and idea.  It was a fun challenge!

April has been enjoying some doodling on decorative card stock using her Signo Uniball gel pens purchased at Jet Pens, where they have great prices.  We all love the white gel pens, they are the best for writing over just about anything.  These will be great additions to her card making.

Karen was busy making Easter cards.

Pinky continued making the iris folding cards.

She is becoming quite expert at it!

Mary brought some knitting to work on.  This will be a wash cloth.  Pretty colors!

Jan too was knitting, beginning a new hat.

April has a unique characteristic:  She collects dead birds.  Yes, you read it right, she collects dead birds.  She doesn't kill them!  No, she only collects fresh ones that she finds dead.  Here she is holding a bagged Gray Jay she found on her deck.  Evidently it hit the window too hard.  She looks like the cat who bagged the canary!

What does she do with them, you might ask?  That is what we all ask her, anyway.  She has great plans for them although she hasn't fully decided just what those plans are as yet.  In the meantime she keeps them in her freezer.  Here you can see two Varied Thrush, one Stellar Jay, one Western Tanager, a Red Shafted Flicker and one Evening Grosbeak.  We tease her mercilessly about this hobby of hers.

When Jan came across this picture in a Smithsonian magazine she couldn't help but alter it a bit before giving it to April.

We love her anyway.

I've been working on some baby hats for our local Crisis Pregnancy Center. This is one that I made after Pinky and I left S&B and headed home. It was a pretty blended yarn that I found and was a much heavier hat than the little ones I made before. It was fun to work on.

What a Trade!!! Mary To Sarita And Back...

I answered a post on the barter site for www.farmgirlsisterhood.org for Sarita looking for a certain size AERO knitting needle. I had those and a pair of vintage wooden ones I could send. I wrote her and she wanted to trade. I sent the needles and Sarita sent me back this huge ball of wonderful roving. Look at the colors!...so yummy. I am going to share it with you girls on Tues. Before Halloween @Jan's

Halloween ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) by Jan.  Sorry that Pinky and Mary weren't able to make it, they will get theirs next week.

April was embroidering a quilt block that will be part of a gift quilt for her cousin who is getting married. That might not be the exact story, but it is something like that.   It is lovely, April does exquisite embroidery. 

Karen was working in her personal journal book.  She says it is such a relaxing activity for her.  It is super cool.  Lots of nature inspired imagery.

Joan is knitting herself a hat that will be felted down.  If she ever finishes it;-) Notice our mascot Rocky snoozing in the background?

It was another fun day even though it poured down rain and April had to leave too soon.  Karen and Joan stayed until nearly 4pm and we sat talking.  Chain saw man came down and brought fresh salsa for them to take home.  He makes the best salsa around.

Next week we will be meeting at Joan's to celebrate Pinky's birthday!  We will also trade our Round Robin calendars and reveal our altered cigar boxes.  Should be fun!!  Hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween!!

 

Joan's Beading Project...

We were so happy to have Joan join us in a project. She picked out her own beads and sewed them on to make a magnet for her home. She told us today that it is a tree and we could all see it. Usually, Joan brings knitting and works on that while we work on other things. It was so fun to see her working right along with us all on our beading projects. Today, she framed her project by pinking the edge of the felt and adding the magnet to the back. I think she was having a great time.

Tuesday....

We had a wonderful day at Karen's. Jan worked on some cat toys for Christmas that she was needle felting (see picture). Karen was working on some cards. Pinky brought some hot pads to cut out. April was knitting on her scarf for her daughter in law. I was working on Some Christmas cards. I forgot my camera, so the only pictures I have this week are those of Jan's toy (because she gave me one), and the cards I was working on. I hope to bring my camera each week and show the different things we have as projects.
Our next challenge is to make 5 postcard size collages to trade in January. I have started on mine and they are so fun!
